Totally Transit for Older Adults

Green Venture’s popular school education program, Totally Transit, also has a non-school adult version: Totally Transit for Older Adults.

Taking the bus is one of the most convenient and affordable ways to get around our city.  The public transit systems in our region (Hamilton Street Railway, Burlington Transit, St Catharines Transit, Welland Transit, etc.) carry millions of passengers per year and operates comprehensive bus routes.

The Totally Transit for Older Adults program introduces people to the their local public transit system, and provides them with the information needed to use it effectively. The program specifically caters to older adults or to newcomers to transit.

Green Venture offers workshops  on local bus services, tailoring the presentation to the immediate local system and focuses on the neighbourhood around the workshop location.

Topics such as local bus routes, bus fare and passes, seniors’ discounts, and trip planning will be covered. Older adults will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to confidently navigate public transit.

After a 45 minute presentation on taking the bus, including such topics as how to use Google maps to plan your trip, for those who use the internet, all workshop participants will have the opportunity to have personalized bus trip planning to up to two destinations.  Green Venture will work with participants step by step instructions explaining how to take the bus to their destinations, and provide an optional guided bus trip, with a trained bus travel guide volunteer.  Where funding permits, free bus tickets will be provided. The travel guide will orient them on how to use the bus while they ride to a fun location for an outing, before travelling back to their starting point on the bus together.
