Union Gas Home Renovation Rebate Program

Union Gas 2016

Since 2013, Union Gas customers in Ontario have been eligible to participate in the utility’s Home Renovation Rebate program. As a member of Green Communities Canada, Green Venture is an eligible agency to conduct the energy audits and can assist you in navigating this program. For the Union Gas, Green Venture services Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Haldimand, Norfolk, and Brant County.

Effective May 29, 2017, the Home Renovation Rebate Program has been augmented by the introduction of the Whole Home Pilot Program, which includes additional electrical incentives from the Independent Electrical Systems Operator (IESO). This includes such rebates as the Heating and Cooling Incentives for furnace and air conditioner replacement. Rather than applying for those electrical rebates (Save on Energy) separately, they may now be bundled as part of the larger Whole Home Pilot.

Electrically-heated homes are now eligible to participate in the Whole Home Pilot*

REA (Registered Energy Adviser) using a blower door.

How does the Union Gas Home Renovation Rebate Program work?

A pre retrofit energy audit and a post retrofit energy is required for the Home Renovation Rebate Program. The cost of the pre retrofit energy audit for the program (paid at the time of the site visit to the Service Organization, Green Venture)  is $375 +HST. The charge for the follow-up visit will be $225 +HST. (Total $600 +HST between the two visits)

The pre retrofit energy audit provides you with the baseline of your home’s energy use. You will receive an EnerGuide rating for your home and a report, and an update after the follow-up audit is complete.

As part of the Home Renovation Rebate Program and the linked electrical Whole Home Pilot, participants will receive $600 back for their energy audits (that’s $600 total for the pre and post audits, not $600 for each), plus up to $4400 more for eligible home renovation rebates (Total potential rebates value: $5000). In addition, all participants will be eligible for bonus electrical rebates for such items as fridge replacement, freezer replacement, or clothes washer.
