Climate change talk is everywhere! The city of Hamilton declared a climate emergency this past spring, and many Hamilton students have joined in climate strikes. Our “Power to Change” presentation links personal energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, to give students a broad picture of what climate change is, and what personal actions we can take to mitigate it.
Our “Power to Change” presentation is a full period, in class presentation, appropriate for grades 5-8. The presentation is hands on and interactive, focusing on:
- simple definition of climate change
- food choices that affect energy use/climate change
- consumption choices that affect energy use/climate change
Each presentation ends with students taking the “Power to Change” pledge; a challenge to choose 2 lifestyle changes to reduce their personal energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
We are piloting the presentations this fall at 3 local elementary schools: Tapleytown, Mount Hope and Bennetto. Thanks to the City of Hamilton Community Enrichment Fund for helping us deliver these free pilot presentations! It allows us to get valuable feedback from teachers and students, and ensure that our programs are grade appropriate, relevant, and curriculum linked.
If you would like to book a “Power to Change” Presentation for your grade 5-7 class you can find all the info at In-School Presentations
Each full period presentation is $84.75, with each subsequent presentation at $45.20.
This program is funded in part from the City of Hamilton Community Enrichment Fund.
