Buses and Bikes for Older Adults

Taking the bus or a SoBi bicycle, is a convenient, affordable, sustainable way to get around our city. The Totally Transit for Older Adults program introduced people to their local public transit system, and provided them with information needed to use it effectively. The program catered specifically to older adults and newcomers to transit. Topics such as cycling etiquette and safety, how to apply for a SoBi pass, bus fares, and route planning were all be covered

During this free 2 hour workshop we began with some in class learning about cycling and how to use the SoBi system. We then travelled as a group to ride the HSR and go for a SoBi ride. All costs related to using the bus and a SoBi bike were covered for participants

Each workshop was facilitated by staff from Green Venture, along with staff from partners New Hope Bikes and the Everybody Rides Initiative.

Partners

Strong community partners played a vital role in the implementation of all 6 TTOA workshops. Staff from New Hope Bikes and Everybody Rides Initiative attended each workshop and contributed their knowledge, skills and passion for active transportation. Staff from New Hope Bikes reviewed safe urban cycling practices and led the ride. Staff from Everybody Rides Initiative led the hands-on practice of how to activate and unlock a  SoBi bicycle, as well as how to apply for subsidized riding passes. Each participant at all 6 workshops was able to apply for a subsidized ride pass! Thank you New Hope Bikes and Everybody Rides Initiative!
