Green Venture is seeking volunteer committee members to support planning for Hamilton Seedy Saturday 2023!

Seedy Saturday is known as the ‘go to’ place for gardeners new and old to swap seeds and share ideas on backyard gardening, composting, supporting pollinators, heirloom and organic seeds, sustainability and biodiversity and more! Since 2011, Green Venture has been the primary organizer of Hamilton’s Seedy Saturday events.

As we begin to plan for a return to an in-person Seedy Saturday in February 2023, Green Venture is committed to building a more inclusive and engaging event for all. Our goal is that Seedy Saturday will represent, celebrate, and connect Hamilton’s diverse gardening community.

We are seeking volunteers that are committed to helping us reach this goal. Volunteers from equity seeking groups are especially encouraged to join one of our core event planning committees.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. These committees will likely meet 4-5 times between October and February.

Venue CommitteeMinimum two  (2) positions

This committee will work to secure a suitable venue location that is pleasant, a good size, accessible and centrally located. The committee will work to create clear signage so people can find their way around the event.

Marketing Committee – Minimum two (2) positions

Without promotions, it’s hard to bring a lot of people to the event. The committee will work in creating a mix of social media, posters and cross-promotions with partners and vendors. This committee will meet with the coordinator as needed to review documents.

Speaker Committee – Minimum two (2) positions

The speaker committee will take command of finding extraordinary speakers and finding ways to engage attendees through children’s activities and interactive displays.

Vendor/Sponsorship Committee – Minimum two (2) positions

The committee works with staff to oversee and implement fundraising activities to support Seedy Saturday. This may include finding sponsors, vendor selection, raffles and other activities. The fundraising committee will work with Green Venture staff on fundraising efforts and may take the lead in specific activities. The committee also ensures the proper acknowledgement of sponsors and supporters.

Seed Swap Committee

The seed swap exchange is the heart of Seedy Saturday. The exchange facilitates the trading of seeds saved by local community members. This committee will organize the seed swap exchange, including sourcing seed donations, seed sorting and labeling, and the seed swap room set up and take down.

If you are interested in joining a Seedy Saturday planning committee, please fill out the application form below by October 15th, 2022. Please include a brief overview of why you are interested in volunteering and describe any relevant volunteer and committee experience (max 250 words). Volunteer roles will be confirmed by October 21, 2022  and we expect volunteer committees to begin meeting at the end of October. There are a limited number of opportunities to volunteer.
