Green Venture empowers Hamiltonians to implement greener practices in their homes and communities to make our city a climate champion. Some of our favorite ways to support our community include:

  • Supporting the eco-journeys of local youth 
  • Planting trees and removing invasive species
  • Working together on hands-on stewardship projects
  • Make homes more energy efficient
  • Sharing seeds and plants with our community
  • Hosting a wider variety of community-based events ranging from Depave Paradise, Community Tree Planting, Seed Saturday

The following is a list of some of the roles that volunteers may be asked to fill at a Seedy Saturday : 

Zoom Meeting Facilitator– Virtual Volunteering Role 

Commitment: Saturdays, February, 2- 5 Hours 

We are looking for Volunteer Zoom Meeting Facilitators to help us connect with partners and stakeholders via Zoom.  We are looking for people to help with: 

  • Downloading Zoom on their devices 
  • Creating logins and joining meetings 
  • moderating some meetings e.g.: 
    • muting/unmuting participants 
    • creating breakout rooms if necessary 
  • assisting participants during the meeting. 
  • scheduling some Zoom meetings 
  • Recording GV action items from meetings
  • This role does not involve exposure to any medical information; however, professionalism and discretion are necessary.

Special Event Volunteer– Seedy Saturday

Commitment: Saturdays, February, 2- 5 Hours 

Green Venture hosts a wide variety of community-based events ranging from Depave Paradise, Community Tree Planting, Seed Saturday The responsibilities of special events volunteers include:

  • Provide guests with a positive first impression of Green Venture by offering individualized service, and by maintaining an approachable manner
  • Participate in special events in one or more roles: greeting/directing, curbside pick up, promotion, registration, health & safety screening, information desk, usher, and coordinator assistant.
  • Set-up and take-down event spaces when required
  • Provide administrative assistance
  • Volunteers will be required to follow COVID safety procedures, such as handling items with clean hands, wearing a mask, and keeping distance from others sharing the space. 
  • Please keep in mind some volunteer opportunities involve working outdoors. It may be cold, windy, warm, rainy, or beautiful. You should dress appropriately for the weather. As long as there is no lighting
    or immediate threat of danger to participants/staff the activity will go on and you will be expected to follow through with your volunteer duties.

Seed Sorting Volunteer

Commitment: Flexible

Join us as we sort through all of our seed donations and organize our Seed Library center in preparation of the busy garden season. In addition to sorting seeds, we will be counting, organizing and distributing supplies for Hamilton Seed Library. Enjoy casual conversation with like minded volunteers. If you are part of our Grow A Row Program , you can also choose your seeds while sorting. 

Sorting and packing tasks can be done at home at any time you find convenient. If delivering seeds to seed libraries, volunteers will be required to follow COVID safety procedures, such as handling items with clean hands, wearing a mask, and keeping distance from others sharing the space.
