Our new volunteer all the way from France is sharing her knowledge in a weekly blog on vegetarianism, called “Veggie Month with Oria”! Meet Oria:
Hi!!!
I am Oria, a French summer student. I am volunteering here, at Green Venture, for the month of July. It’s my first week and I have already done so many interesting things!!
I helped with the EcoStars camp, and the children were so nice and enjoyed their day a lot. We also used the smoothie bike. They were so excited about it. I must admit the smoothie looked very delicious, and fresh (in these very hot days)!!
This morning, I planted lettuce and kale for the first time!! I am a vegetarian, and I was very proud to learn how to produce my own vegetables. I come from Paris, so it’s not very easy to have your own garden there … Now I know how to do it and I will try to convert my family and my friends to it when I am back at home. You should try, it’s so simple and a good way to spend time with your friends, children … or even on your own in order to relax and forget all of your troubles !!
Then, I removed weeds with another volunteer, from the garden bed 13. She spoke to me about the area, and what I should visit. People are so nice and friendly here. It’s a nice change from Parisian lifestyle. I will let you know what we are going to plant there.
In the next days, we are going to collaborate with a nearby donut shop that serves vegan food. We would want to take their used coffee grounds and transform it into compost for our future plantings. It would be a very great ‘Eco gesture’ for our planet and would help in the development of people’s environmental awareness.
I am looking forward to learning new things and working on new projects!!!
Have a good day!
