Depaving Paradise & Taking Down a Parking Lot

Your spellchecker won’t recognize it and auto-correct might mutate its letters into “repave” or “deprave,” but it’s become one of the latest buzzwords among green adventurers.
Depave. It means tear out the pavement and give the land back to nature — with a lot of help from scores of volunteers who plant indigenous plants in the reclaimed ground.
In Hamilton, there have been four major examples — one at Dundas Valley Montessori School, two at Hamilton Catholic board schools and an effort to improve the ecology of a creek beside a parking lot at McMaster University.
