The Alley Planting at Laidlaw United Church will be taking place at the same time!
Green Venture, in partnership with Green Communities Canada and ArcelorMittal Dofasco are working to make Ottawa Street greener. Over the past couple of months, Green Venture has hosted participatory planning workshops at Laidlaw United Church to hear from residents what new green spaces they would like to see. The planning is completed and it’s time to start planting!
Join fellow community members in planting the alley full of native perennials and come exchange plants too. You can participate in both events, but that’s not mandatory.

- Networking: Connect with fellow plant lovers, exchange gardening stories, and make new friends who share your passion.
- Plant Accessories Trade: Browse through a selection of pots, planters, tools, and accessories to enhance your indoor garden.
Why not outdoor plants?
Have you heard of jumping worms? Introduced to North America in the late 1800s, they have recently begun invading natural habitats in the Northeast and Midwest. As they are voracious eaters, jumping worms quickly consume the top layer of organic material, making it difficult for plants to remain rooted and allowing nutrients to be washed away by rain. Once in the garden, worms can spread to surrounding natural areas and pose a threat to the ecosystem. To help reduce the spread of contaminated soil, we are focusing on swapping indoor plants.
