Spring approaches, & soon the snow will be melting away for good! Here at Green Venture, no snow means it must be time to start ripping up impermeable surfaces with our Depave Paradise Program, but where should we begin? We’re currently on the hunt for new Depave sites, see the graphic at the bottom of this post to learn what makes the ideal Depave Site.
Depave Paradise aims to reverse the proliferation of hard surfaces in our City. The project will restore natural diversity by ripping up these hard surfaces and replacing them with soil and native vegetation. Implementing this project in your community will directly benefit the local watershed by using best practice green infrastructure to stop storm water runoff from carrying contaminants into our fresh water sources.
Depave Paradise is empowering! Through depave projects, we are able to help build strong communities that understand the power we have when we all work together. Depaving demonstrates that we as citizens, can take action into our own hands, & it helps us realize our own abilities to battle and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Lastly, green space helps to protect you & your neighbour’s assets from the increasing risk of flooding, and looks good doing it!
Do you want more green space in your community? To protect Hamilton’s watershed? And reduce the risk of flooding where you live? Be on the lookout for a potential site to transform with Depave!
If you are interested in doing a Depave in your community this year, please don’t hesitate to reach out to <depave@greenventure.ca> with any idea’s you may have about a potential site.
