Green Venture has been running the Grow a Row project since August, 2020. As Hamilton entered a summer of recovery from the ongoing global pandemic, the Grow a Row project aimed to help local gardeners put their green thumbs to work to build a more resilient, connected community by growing a little extra to support Hamilton’s food support organizations. This year 17 Backyard Garden Growers committed to planting an extra row of produce in their gardens to later donate to Neighbour to Neighbour Centre and to Hamilton’s Community Fridges, helping to fight local food insecurity.
With the community hard at work in their gardens we began donations in early July. In the first week, 79.16.lbs of fresh garden produce from members of our community were donated. Green Venture is pleased to announce that through this resilience project a total of 489 lbs were donated.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication provided by the volunteers and staff serving The Grow A Row Program. Their efforts in making our community a greener, more sustainable city where we can all work, play, exercise, and enjoy our families and friends contributes to the quality of life for all of us.
