Join Green Venture staff and former Hamilton City Councilor, David Braden, to learn about energy conservation and climate action at home.
The primary objective of this session is to provide a background on the biggest causes of building emissions, shedding light on critical concepts that can serve as long-term solutions for homeowners, thereby facilitating a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and energy cost savings. We will discuss these concepts in conjunction with Hamilton’s upcoming climate targets and associated rebate and loan programs.
Our goal for this session is to share practical building knowledge that homeowners can use to make their houses more energy efficient spanning a spectrum from low to substantial investments. We will explore lesser known facts about home energy efficiency, building science, and questions to ask contractors. This session is designed to equip attendees with a repository of insights concerning architectural intricacies that can improve the energy efficiency of existing houses. This information session is being presented by Green Venture staff and former City Councillor, Dave Braden, with support from Environment Hamilton and the City of Hamilton – Office of Climate Change Initiatives.
Discussion topics will include:
– Introduction to energy efficiency and the heat loss problem (attic, basements and envelope)
– Tips on how to achieve maximum air tightness and minimum conduction
– Issues by house type and real-world solutions
– Content on specific design standards to modify conventional building practices
– Uncommon but critically important building techniques
– Details on the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program
