The role of youth in the environmental movement, and in leading rapid change, cannot be overstated. Through youth advocates like Canada’s Autumn Peltier, and Sweden’s Greta Thunberg, youth have been taking the lead all across the world. With the support of the City of Hamilton Enrichment Fund, Clean Air Hamilton, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Green Venture has developed two curriculum-linked, interactive education programs to work with Hamilton youth to drive climate action.
Fresh Air for Kids has been a Green Venture program for several years. Originally targeting grade 5-8 students, the program has now been expanded to engage highschool students in grade 9 and 10. Through a series of three remote modules, Hamilton students will learn about the science of air quality, the impacts it has on our health, and the importance of personal action and activism. We will educate students in a creative, meaningful, and hands-on way, while inspiring them to make changes in their communities.

Power to Change is a new program from Green Venture, for students in grade 9 and 10. These modules have been designed with the goal of educating students about the importance of environmental accountability and the power of taking personal action. Each activity builds upon the next to give students the opportunity to change both individual and community-wide behaviours. The modules begin with a background on climate change initiatives in Canada, move on to explore the impact of individual actions, and finally ask students to challenge themselves and their community to reduce their carbon footprint.
