Hamilton Stormwater Week 2023

Join us on Monday, August 14 2023 from 6:30-7:30pm EST at the Waterfront Trail for a “Walk and Talk around Bayfront Park (Meet at the BARC Kiosk) 

Harleen from Bay Area Restoration Council will guide us on a walk to discuss grey infrastructure in Hamilton (e.g. storm sewers, combined overflow tanks, separate and combined systems), our watershed and community greening opportunities.

On this guided walk, we will explore the bay, learn about issues and solutions and enjoy a leisurely walk on the trail. Please bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.

Join us on Tuesday, August 15 2023 from 6-7:30pm EST at St. John the Evangelist (Meet near bike racks) 

Drop by and learn from Norm Newbery and Erinn Turnball about some of the Green Infrastructure features on-site including the beautiful rain gardens, the holding tank with a pump and soaker hoses and the history of the project. Stick around for a workshop on winter sowing so you can learn how to easily grow native plants for your garden. Garrett Tribble from WaterFarmers Urban Agriculture will also be on-site answering questions about Green Infrastructure.

Bonus: attendees will receive mixed native plant seed packets.

Join us on Wednesday, August 16 2023 from 5-7pm EST at Hutch’s (280 Van Wagners Beach Rd)

Help keep our waterways clean with HamOntYouth. Gather a group of 3-7 friends (aged 14-29) to join in helping to keep our beaches clean!  Gloves and cleaning supplies will be provided.

Visit us at EcoHouse to explore ways to reduce the amount of water you use, reduce the impact on the stormwater systems, protect waterways, and more. Green Venture staff will guide you around the property and point out Green Infrastructure features that you can implement at home and in your community. Alongside Cherish Gamble, Watershed Stewardship Technician from Hamilton Conservation Authority, we will explain the different stormwater rebate programs available to you for Green Infrastructure projects in your home and community. Guest speaker Adele Pierre, landscape architect, will show attendees around the rain gardens and answer your garden questions.  

Michael Albanese from Avesi Stormwater & Landscape Solutions will be on-site explaining different water catchment and diversion solutions; including rain barrels and more!

Karennotakies from Kahnekanoron, the Indigenous Sustenance Reclamation Network will be presenting about programs offered to support Indigenous women and TwoSpirit/Queer folks who are food and medicine growers, harvesters and nurturers.

Celebrate the end of Stormwater Week with a picnic at the Gage Park Stormwater Pond. On Friday August 18 2023 6:00-8pm.  

Hector Quintero, Stormwater Operations Project Manager from the City of Hamilton, will explain the function and features of the stormwater pond and explain various ways the City is collecting runoff to reduce flooding and pollution.

Bring a picnic blanket and your own snacks to enjoy the park after the presentation. Meet at the east side of Gage Park (near the stormwater pond)
