You may have seen them around EcoHouse when you stopped by, but now that summer is about halfway over (sorry, we know, we know!), we thought it was time to get to know our wonderful summer students a bit more! Check out their bios below.
Anna- Environmental Programs Assistant
I’m doing my second year as a summer student for Green Venture. I love to hang out in all the incredible nature Hamilton has to offer, as well as garden, cook, and read. I currently Arts and Science at McMaster, and hope to pursue sustainable urban planning after I finish this degree. Working at Green Venture has offered me some really incredible opportunities to explore the field I’m interested in outside of school, which has helped me to decide what career path I’d like to follow. It has also allowed me to engage with a wide variety of people and communities. It’s a great environment to work in, and full of great people to work with!
Taylor- Environmental Programs Assistant
This is my first year working with Green Venture. I’m in my third year of Sciences at McMaster and I love to be working with what I’m studying. I plan to pursue my interest in renewable energy or sustainable eating after graduation! I love working at Green Venture because of the wonderful people working here. Even on my very first day, I felt as if my values aligned with others and GV, as well as that everyone respected me for my abilities and supported me through my struggles. Being in the EcoHouse has allowed me to gain a better understanding of good environmental practices which I can share with and encourage others to implement. I wasn’t the best EcoStar before working here, but being around supportive and dedicated people allows me to adopt the great things they do around here! Working with children is rewarding, but teaching them is even better. This summer camp is inspiring the next generation to work together to reduce their ecological footprint; being part of this wonderful project makes me feel as if I’m directly making a difference.
Alison – Outreach & Communications Assistant
This is my first year working at Green Venture as the Outreach and Communications Assistant. I’ve lived in Hamilton my entire life, and have always had an interest in all things related to geography and sustainability (and studied this in school as well!). I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to work at such a unique place with such great people. EcoHouse is a beautiful place to work, and I’ve enjoyed learning about the gardens, environmental education programs, and so much more! I’ve learned a lot in the short time I’ve been here and it’s wonderful to be able to see (and be a part of) the positive things that come about from the work done here!
Jesse – Green Gardening Assistant
I’m a recent engineering graduate who has worked with Green Venture for the last three summers as a Green Gardening Assistant. I’ve learned about invasive and native species in the area, including both plants and wildlife. I like being able to work outdoors and enjoy the amount of nature on the EcoHouse property. Being outside most of the day provides a lot of physical activity and is enjoyable during the warmer weather. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy my time at the EcoHouse, as I get to be in nature, as well as in a rewarding role.
