The Green Venture Seedling Sale is on again for 2022 and bigger than ever! It’s so big we’ve made a festival of it. Visitors will be able to join a live ‘Planting for Pollinators’ demonstration by BeeKissedSeeds, ask a Halton Master Gardener for advice, stop by Bird Friendly Hamilton Burlington’s booth to find out how to create safe havens for birds, Shop Food For Life’s bags of high-quality locally made compost and learn about their great work on rescuing food.. That’s not all, enjoy sweet treats and coffee by Ward IV and Kitchen Island among the trees, join fun activities for kids led by Green Venture’s education team, enjoy some live tunes by Hamilton’s own Jason Allen and Michael Hillson, and of course, shop for heirloom, organic vegetable and herb seedlings.
The seedling sale is happening during our Spring Garden Festival on Saturday May 14th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm or until seedlings are sold out.
We are growing a wide selection of vegetable garden favourites and some unique seedlings for home gardeners. All funds from the Seedling Sale support Green Venture’s gardening and environmental education programming to continue to make our community greener. Plants to choose from include several heirloom tomato varieties such as Gardener’s Delight, Mortgage Lifter, Black Krim , Basil, Peppers, Black Beauty Eggplants, Celeriac, Kale Black Magic and more!
Additionally, visitors will be able to shop seedlings from our friends at Shared Harvest Community Farm. Shared Harvest is a nonprofit organization based in Dunnville that provides local, organic, sustainable, and financially accessible food for the community.
TIPS and REMINDERS to help you enjoy our SEEDLING SALE:
We will NOT be selling plants online this year and we can not reserve plants for you. The seedlings are available only for in-person shopping. If you would like to come during less busy times, we recommend coming late afternoon/evening. Please bring cash as we do not accept cards. Our event will be taking place outdoors, nonetheless, we encourage all visitors to maintain social distance, wear mask when social distancing is not possible, and please stay home if you are unwell.
As a reminder, we recommend that plants that are not cold tolerant (peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, and cukes) are NOT planted until on or after Victoria Day long weekend. Watch the weather forecast, and if there is a chance of temperatures below 5C, hold off planting.
We suggest you bring a tray, cardboard box, or container to hold your seedlings.
