Are you looking for volunteer opportunities where you’ll gain valuable knowledge of biodiversity and invasive species prevention? Well, Green Venture is the answer for you!
What is Green Venture?
Green Venture is a not-for-profit environmental organization based in Hamilton, Ontario. At Green Venture, we offer a diverse range of community-based programs, educational workshops, and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability among Hamiltonians.
To highlight a few, one program we offer is the Urban Gardening Club, providing members with access to workshops focused on environmentally conscious urban gardening, volunteer opportunities, and experiential group outings. Another way Hamilton residents can get involved is through our Canopy for Community projects. These involve community tree-planting events and stewarding mini-forest and other tree planting sites. Since 2020, Green Venture, with the support of volunteers of all ages, has planted thousands of trees and revitalized more than 23 spaces. The Depave and Urban Green Infrastructure projects focus on replacing impermeable pavement with native species and permeable surfaces. By depaving urban spaces, we aim to help mitigate the urban heat island effect, which occurs when urban temperatures are elevated due to the replacement of natural spaces with dense heat-absorbing paved surfaces. Volunteers can help us maintain these transformed green spaces by removing invasive species, picking up litter, and keeping an eye on them.
Community education plays a vital role in our mission. Through workshops, informational sessions, consultations, and various school and youth programs, we strive to encourage environmental consciousness in future generations and empower Hamiltonians to make positive environmental changes.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities!
Green Venture offers weekly volunteer opportunities on-site at EcoHouse or in the community. The Green Venture headquarters is called “EcoHouse” and it’s a transformed 1850s stone building. EcoHouse serves as an office space along with a demonstration site for a variety of green initiatives, showcasing practical solutions for sustainable living.
Join us at EcoHouse, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings to learn about biodiversity and invasive species. EcoHouse is a lush two-acre property, showcasing native plant gardens, a community vegetable garden, demonstration eco-lawn patches, permeable pavers, green roofs, and much more! This hands-on volunteer experience offers you the chance to make a tangible difference in our local ecosystem.
We’ll be engaging in activities to assist in gardening or landscaping projects or other things at the EcoHouse education center site and for rainy days, sorting seeds to promote native plant growth. Don’t worry if you’re new to this– no tools or experience is needed! Just be sure to bring water and wear closed-toed shoes!
