What is it?
Green Venture is very excited to be running Grow a Row in Hamilton again this year. In joining us as a Grower, you are helping to fight food insecurity and increasing access to healthy, sustainable, and local food within the Hamilton community. Green Venture and Grow A Row Growers commit to growing an additional row of produce to be donated to Neighbour to Neighbour Foodbank located on Athens Street and Hamilton’s Community Fridge located at Today’s Family Early Learning and Child Care Centre.
Why “grow a row” for the N2N Centre and Community Fridge?
Neighbour to Neighbour offers emergency food support in their food bank to 1,200 families (3,500 individuals) per month by providing 5 -7 days of essential food – fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, bread and vital non-perishable items. You can learn more about N2N here. In addition, this year we will be donating to Hamilton’s Community Fridge located at Today’s Family Early Learning and Child Care Centre. A community fridge is a volunteer run, publicly accessible, low barrier resource from which community members can get free food. Learn more here.
Donating your Grow A Row Produce
Dropping off at EcoHouse:
Donations can be dropped off starting July 7th, from 9am to 1:30pm at EcoHouse on our red porch. Donations should be placed inside the cooler provided. Please follow Covid-19 health and safety guidelines and use hand sanitizer before dropping off items, wear a mask, and keep physical distance while on site. Donations will be delivered by volunteers to N2N on Wednesday afternoons, so all produce must be dropped off by 1:30pm. Use the entrance off Ambrose Drive and access our porch from the staircase on the right of the garage. Produce does not need to be washed.
Dropping off at the Hamilton Community Fridge at Today’s Family Early Learning and Childcare Centre:
The fridge is located outdoors for accessibility at all times. Donations will be accepted 24/7. If you wish to drop off directly to the community fridge we ask that you weigh your produce beforehand and send the weight via email to garden@greenventure.ca so that we can keep track of your contributions. Wash fruits and vegetables in clean, running water. Do not use detergents, soaps or bleach to wash produce. Please follow Covid-19 health and safety guidelines and use hand sanitizer before dropping off items, wear a mask, and keep physical distance while on site.
