That’s a wrap on our 2021 Native Plant of the Month Fundraiser! If you’d like to be the first to know when 2022 orders open, sign up here to be notified.
Since May, we have delivered nearly 300 native plants and 160+ local, sustainable goodies to our subscribers. This fundraiser has helped us raise funds to support student projects for our Youth Stewardship and Professional Skills Program. Students are currently working on stewardship projects to protect our waterways!
Each month our subscribers receive their native plants of the month and an eco-conscious product from a local retailer in the Greater Hamilton area plus a newsletter in their inboxes detailing the plants, the products and more!
Check out the May, June and July recap here.
Let’s take a peek inside the last three months of the fundraiser:
Native Plants
Our team carefully curated each month’s box with some of our favourite native plants from Ontario Native Plants and southern neighbours Seed-Box Wild Plant Studio.
Each plant came along with details about how much they enjoy the sun or shade, whether they want their feet wet or dry, the type of soil that makes them happy and how tall they will grow. Nine species of plants, perfect for late season planting, were selected for August, September and October. Let’s get to know them better:
Already dreaming of spring? Use our plant list from the Native Plant of the Month 2021 as a guide when shopping next year. Check out our native plant guide blog for more tips and where to find native flowers!

Sustainable Goodies
For the native plant of the month we wanted to support other local, sustainable businesses that are helping keep us green!
For the native plant of the month we wanted to support other local, sustainable businesses that are helping keep us green!
In the height of summer, otherwise known as the ‘dog days’, we teamed up with Save Our Scruff, a non-profit organization located in Toronto dedicated to rescuing dogs and finding them safe and suitable permanent homes through adoption, advocacy and education. We dropped off the native plants in these tote-ally adorable bags! Made from recycled fibres, protecting planet earth and supporting our puppy pals! And BONUS they are a part of the EcoHamilton Collective!
Next we helped subscribers ring in the new school year with handmade pencil cases from Sumak Arts. A multi-generational business in Hamilton, Sumak Arts offers handmade products from indigenous families in Otavalo, Ecuador and the surrounding communities. Green Venture celebrated zero-waste with Rethink October.
Our final eco-gift was provided by Hammer Handmade. Each year more than 5 billion pounds of paper towels are used by Canadians! Subscribers can now rethink how to clean up messes with these handmade unpaper towels! Each is handmade by Hammer Handmade, creating a unique roll in each package! This is a great simple swap to add to your daily routine!
Thank you to all the amazing businesses that joined the Native Plant of the Month Fundraiser!
