In the wintertime, there’s almost nothing better than curling up with a good book or sipping a hot drink at home. Over the past two years we have been a delivery agent for Enbridge’s Winterproofing Program and we think our impact is worth sharing. By delivering this program, we have helped households with eligible income levels to reduce and save on energy use every month. As this free program winds down for Green Venture in the coming months, we’ve put together these stats that have made us smile:
- Evaluated 248 income-qualified homes
- Completed 92 retrofits which included free insulation and draft proofing
- Saved residents 62,684 M³ of natural gas per year
- Arranged for the free supply and installation of 382 energy-saving smart thermostats
Our goal has been to minimize the amount of energy flowing out of older homes in the Niagara Region to ensure comfortable temperatures throughout the winter. This has allowed for households to not only reduce their greenhouse gas emissions but has also helped keep energy prices affordable by improving on existing homes. We are so grateful to our Energy Programs team including the Registered Energy Advisors that have helped make these reductions possible.
By targeting older homes with insufficient insulation and addressing specific problems exposed by a home energy evaluation, this program has proved to have notable impacts when it comes to energy use. While this program is not the sole focus of Green Venture, it offers a vitally important opportunity for everyday folks to both support and better understand climate action while creating new climate leaders across the region. Our focus on the community, our team’s passion for driving environmental change and the personalized, hands on approach to service, has kept us top of mind for people looking to drive collaborative green action.
