Reducing our personal energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions, can feel very difficult and overwhelming. As part of the “Power to Change” campaign, we have provided people of all ages with simple actions they can take to tackle climate change. These actions cover a range of lifestyle changes related to food, transportation, home heating, shopping and leisure time.
Some of us are at the very beginning of this journey, and simple, concrete actions are an easy way to begin to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Can you eat two meals a week meat free? Can you choose to walk to places close to home? Could you pull on a sweater and turn the thermostat down?
Some of us have been on this journey for awhile, and may have incorporated some (or all) of these actions into our lives. Use the pledge to evaluate the next challenge you want to take on! Could you start a regular swap among friends/family, to reduce consumption? Are you ready to explore a new method of sustainable transportation?
The “Power to Change” pledge is also a great tool for family, friends, co workers, and neighbours to use to talk to each other. Maybe use the Pledge as a fun challenge; try one action for a week, and see what happens! Use the pledge to talk to others about simple, inexpensive ways to reduce energy use.
Let’s take action!
If you are ready to take some simple actions to reduce personal energy use and greenhouse gas emissions go to Power to Change
choose one or two actions, and take the Power to Change Pledge
This program is funded in part from the City of Hamilton Community Enrichment Fund.
